A right royal celebration for the whole community

On Thursday 2 June we opened our doors for a Platinum Jubilee picnic to kick off celebrations for the Jubilee weekend. Over 150 people arrived with friends and family and settled down on the lawns to enjoy the spectacular weather, beautiful views and all the other things on offer. Guests enjoyed lawn games, a swing band, a tombola, a cake baking competition, face painting and races including egg and spoon and three-legged races, which were enjoyed by all age groups. Over £260 was raised; £130 through the tombola and cake competition with the remaining £130 matched by the estate. The money raised went towards the Farming Community Network which supports farmers and their families through difficult times.

There was strong competition for the best cake, which included delicately designed Victoria sponges, a beautifully iced chocolate cake and a coffee and pignut cake, expertly topped with spun sugar! The winner was Sarah Major who was presented with the winner’s cake board, kindly donated by Olly from Mena Woodwork who made it out of Boconnoc oak.
