1) EXPLORE THE NEARBY LOCAL BEACHES

Take a picnic, bring some games (boule, rounders, a kite perhaps?) don’t forget a bucket and spade, and spend the day soaking up the sun, sand and sea. The nearest beaches to Boconnoc are Lantic Bay (a little bit of a walk down, but stunning views), Lantivet Bay (beautiful spot with a short walk down and smallish beach), Polkerris Beach (great for kids, lots of activities available to hire and Sam’s on the Beach is great for a seafood lunch) and Talland Bay (also great for children, small sandy beach with a quaint cafe serving sandwiches, cakes and ice creams. 

2) ABSORB THE ATMOSPHERE AT A CORNISH FESTIVAL

Boardmasters which is on 10th – 14th August sits on the cliffs just above Watergate Bay featuring some standout headliner acts this year including George Ezra and Kings of Leon. Cornwall Folk Festival in Wadebridge boasts 25 hours of back to back folk acts from Cornwall, the South-West and beyond from 26th – 29th August. Groove Armarda will be playing at Scorrier House on Saturday the 27th of August or if thats not your thing, Elbow will be performing at Port Eliot on Sunday 28th August. Or for something more classical head to St Endellion Summer Festival, you won’t be disappointed by the range of exceptional musical talent. 

3) ATTEND ONE OF THE UK’S BEST KNOWN SAILING EVENTS 

A 30 minute drive from Boconnoc you find the bustling riverside town of Fowey. During the 10th – 14th August it is the highly renowned Regatta Week which includes a number of sailing races, plus a range of family friendly activities for everyone to enjoy. From fireworks, to crab catching, swimming competitions and a giant pasty ceremony. It is not to be missed. 

4) EAT DELICIOUS HOMEGROWN PRODUCE 

August is a plentiful time of year for our Kitchen Garden. There will be gluts of all sorts of delicious produce coming out of the ground and straight into produce boxes for our guests. You can pre-book a produce box when booking your stay on our website and it’ll be ready and waiting for you on your arrival. 

5) DISCOVER A QUIRKY NEW MUSIC VENUE

Bar Silo in Golant (about a 30 minute drive from Boconnoc) is a quirky new music venue hosting an incredible array of varied musicians performing every Friday night. The bar, a converted grain silo (hence the name), serves a variety of drinks including their very own Bar Silo Cornish pilsner and IPA. You can also expect a seasonal and locally sourced food offering every week at their live music events. 

6) DINE AT SOME OF CORNWALL’S BEST RESTAURANTS

With a wealth of outstanding Cornish producers and some of the finest ingredients around it’s no wonder Cornwall boasts some of the best restaurants in the UK. Some of our nearby favourites include Prawn on the Lawn, Appleton’s, The Longstore, Fitzroy, Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant and Paul Ainsworth’s No.6

7) CATCH A FILM AT OUR OUTDOOR CINEMA SESSIONS

This year we have a fantastic line-up of films for you on the 18th and 19th of August. Expect Disney’s Encanto, the classic Pride and Prejudice, firm favourite The Lion King and the latest action packed James Bond. Full details and booking can be found here

8) SAMPLE SOME OF CORNWALL’S AWARD-WINNING WINES

There are some great vineyards to explore in Cornwall and award-winning wines to be tasted. Our closest is Knightor who regularly host pop-up street food evenings and are open for tastings. World renowned Camel Valley vineyard have regular tours and are open on select days for drinks on the terrace, we highly recommend a drop of their sparkling rosé. Finally, if you are looking for a wine tasting with a view head to Trevibban Mill vineyard for tours, tastings or just for drinks and nibbles overlooking the spectacular vineyard which feels akin to the med. 

9) VISIT A CASTLE AND EXPERIENCE A TRADITIONAL CREAM TEA

There is a wonderful walk from Restormel Castle to Duchy Nursery which takes roughly around 45 mins each way. We recommend stopping at Duchy Nursery for their delicious afternoon tea, jam first of course, before building up the courage to walk back to the castle.

10) GO WILD AND GET ACTIVE AT A FORMER QUARRY

This is the perfect place to bring kids (and big kids) for a whole range of family fun. From the aqua park, to go karting, zip wire, axe throwing and open water swimming there is so much at Adrenaline Quarry to keep boredom at bay.
