Magical winter weddings at a Cornish Country Estate

Winter weddings at Boconnoc promise to be a uniquely magical celebration; with the estate’s elegant charm and the season’s natural beauty coming together to create an unforgettable celebration of love.

Think crisp frost covered misty mornings with views over the estate and late afternoon candle-lit church ceremonies in our on-site church, which is just a stone’s throw from the main house. Weather permitting, choose an enchanting outdoor ceremony in our Dorothy Garden, Woodland Glade or Georgian Bath House or opt for an inside location such as the Garden Room or the Smoking Room.

Boconnoc is also the perfect place for intimate weddings, as the house sleeps up to 19, which means your whole party can stay, dine and celebrate within the house.

There are countless ways to draw inspiration from the season, here are some winter wedding ideas and inspiration to make your special day truly enchanting:

Embrace the winter season with a rich and elegant colour palette, classic choices include deep burgundy, emerald green, navy blue, and shades of silver and gold. These colours evoke warmth and sophistication.

Incorporate cosy and luxurious textures into your wedding decor, think warming fabrics for the bridal party, velvet ribbons, and plush velvet or satin tablecloths. Provide cosy throws or blankets for guests to use during the ceremony or reception, especially if the reception is held outdoors.

Use winter flowers such as Amaryllis, Anemones, Hellebores, and winter berries in your bouquets and arrangements. One of our recommended florists, Becca from The Garden Gate Flower Co, has written a blog about how you can still have sustainably grown British grown flowers for your winter wedding.

Create a romantic ambiance with lots of candles. Use candlesticks, lanterns, and votive candles to add a warm and intimate glow to your ceremony and reception. Embrace the natural beauty of the season by adorning tables with holly, ferns and winter blooms.

Our Garden Room looks just spectacular in the evening with tables lined with candelabras and beautiful flowers or foliage.

Work with one of our recommended wedding caterers to create a banquet that embraces the richness of the season. Delight your guests with indulgent comfort food such as ethical Boconnoc venison from the estate, with a selection of seasonal vegetables straight from our kitchen garden. Hearty dishes, like velvety soups and indulgent risottos will invite your guests to savour the essence of winter’s bounty.  As a warming treat to end the evening, offer guests warm and comforting drinks such as mulled wine, hot cocoa with marshmallows and whipped cream, or a hot toddy.
